As the clock changed to 12 am 2015, I sat in the middle of my bed reflecting on all my accomplishments in 2014. I must say it was a long tough year of soul searching so that I could release old habits, negative thought patterns and changing my diet by eliminating certain foods such as pasta, rice, bread and processed foods, which took a lot of work of deprograming my self from what I thought was good because society portrayed it to be good for me. The one thing that stood out most to me was feeling great and how clear things became as I refrained from eating processed foods. Once I started eating processed foods again after eliminating it for one week, immediately I notice my thoughts were clouded with fear and negativity, making me feel as though I wasn't worthy. I cried for two days because I really wanted to continue eating certain foods that I thought were nutritious but was only comforting.
Even though it was hard releasing old habits, negative behaviors and non-nutritional foods, I still pushed myself to do what was necessary because I wanted a major change to take place in my life. I wasn’t happy with the way I was living and it began to reveal itself in my daily actions. So I leaped out on faith not knowing where this would lead me and accepted the discomfort of “doing the work” because I knew something good would manifest.
I learned that putting more attention towards myself gave me the strength, courage and motivation that I needed. I added praising and worshiping myself to my daily rituals. At first it felt a bit uncomfortable because in this society we are taught to praise and worship religious Gods and things outside ourselves. After one week of praising and worshiping myself, my thought process was clearer, my energy level was heighten and I woke up each day feeling rejuvenated.
When you focus on yourself and your needs, it brings balance to your life. If you don’t give yourself the necessary attention needed who will? I truly know that honoring yourself will put a smile on your face. Try it you will like it.
Life is for the living and if you’re not happy then you’re not living. Do that one thing that you’ve always wanted to do. Don’t let anything distract you. It’s a woman’s nature to help others, so step outside the box and do for yourself the things you’ve always wanted to do but put on the back burner because you put everybody and everything before yourself. NOW is your time. Love yourself more. DO THE WORK!
